AMANYIA- (Ah men Yah)
After being idled many years from performing in dance groups, writing lyrics and being backup vocalist for the group DC 10 and LaMistique in the 70s, 80s and 90s, made her transition in the fall of 2007 to spoken word/poetry , wrote and produced her first spoken word CD, (My Spoken Words) that was released in 2008 under her pseudonym name Amanyia.
Composing and producing her own music and videos she focuses her written pen on love, life,
and reality while collaborating and co-writing with other inspiring singer songwriters.
Her work is shared via live performances, internet/working and digitally.
Amanyia's accomplishments have not ended there, she wears many hats and goes by many names.
Born Camilla in Akron OH, she is the last born of 18 children.
As a child her mother would wake her up in the wee hours of the morning to sing for her friends,
over the telephone while her sisters would make her sing them to sleep at night. She also sang,
in the junior choir at her church.
This is not the only time she has reached for the stars and realized her dreams.
In 2010, she joined the Reel1 Production family of playwrights, screenwriters and actors and
realized that it was one of her dreams of being an actress and from this landed her parts in
local stage plays, commercials, film and voice over projects, working with local playwrights,
Randy Clark, Mery White, Ahkee Fergerson, Jewelene Banks, Caorl Eutsey and Yulia Gray.
She has performed at several venues in her community; such as the Weathervane Community
Playhouse Theater, Akron's Main Auditorium Library Stage and the Varian Studio in Guzzetta Hall,
Performing Arts Building at the University of Akron.
Being self taught she feels no obstacle is too great for anyone to overcome!
Call her a philanthropist, a hair designer, writer, lyricist, poet, spoken word artist, actor, dancer, producer, composer, photographer, videographer, interviewer, webmaster and author and she will tell you the sky is the limit by encouraging everyone, to follow their dreams through her writings, spoken words and poetry.
Amanyia is finding her way into different genres such as Motivational, Jazz, Experimental, Freestyle, Pop, Rock, and even Hip Hop. Her inspirations are from LIFE, FAMILY, FRIENDS, many diversified lyrical poets, actors and musical blends. Her style and flow can arouse the imagination, from storytelling to thought provoking.
